Prefectural capital:Chiba City
In Chiba Prefecture agriculture is thriving. The production volume of green onion, radish and peanut is the first in Japan. In fishery, Pacific saury of Choshi fishing port is famous. In addition, industrial factories such as petroleum, chemical and steel are concentrated in Keiyo industrial area.

Saitama Prefecture

Prefectural capital:Saitama City
Saitama Prefecture is located adjacent to the capital of Japan, Tokyo. Therefore urbanization has progressed, and the population has also increased rapidly in the 1970s. In addition, various manufacturers have been concentrated.

In Gunma Prefecture agriculture is thriving. The production volume of cabbage, cucumbers and konjacs is the first in Japan. There are femous hot springs such as Kusatsu Onsen, Ikaho Onsen and Minakami Onsen. Many foreign tourists also visit.

In Edo period, production of silk was initiated in this region, sericulture industry had developed. In Meiji period, Tomioka Silk Mill was built, where was the first modern raw silk production mill in Japan. Tomioka Silk Mill was added to the World Heritage List in 2014, after that many tourists have visited here.

Prefectural capital:Utsunomiya City
In Tochigi Prefecture, strawberry production is very developed, more than 40 years the first in Japan. And, the production volume of Kanpyō (dried shavings of calabash) is also the first, accounts for more than 90% of Japan.
There are many hot springs in Nikko, Shiobara and Nasu where are famous tourist destinations.

Industry is thriving in Ibaraki Prefecture. There are many electrical and mechanical plants associated with the multinational conglomerate company “Hitachi” in Hitachi City where is the birthplace of the “Hitachi”. “Kairaku-en” in Mito City is the famous garden which was built by the Mito Domain. Kairaku-en is most attractive during the plum blossom season. The Mito plum blossom festival usually takes place in late February and March. Besides the plum tree forest, where one hundred different plum tree varieties with white, pink and red blossoms are planted. In agriculture, the production volume of green pepper, lotus root, melon, bok choy, chestnut and natto is the first in Japan.

Fukushima Prefecture


Prefectural capital:Fukushima City
In Fukushima Prefecture, both agriculture and Industry is thriving. Mainly in Fukushima City, Iwaki City and Koriyama city, electrical, mechanical, chemical and fiber industry has been developed. In tourism Fukushima Prefecture, there are more than 100 hot springs. And there are also many famous ski resorts, because of high-quality powder snow.

In Edo Period, Fukushima Prefecture was called Aizu domain. From the late Edo period to the early Meiji period, the old shogunate forces (Aizu domain is one of this forces) and the new government forces had fought. Soon Boshin War occurred, Aizu became fierce battle ground in the last phase of the war. Now, many historical materials of this time has been stored in Aizu-Wakamatsu Castle, the seat of old Aizu domain. Aizu-Wakamatsu Castle has attracted a lot of history fan.

Prefectural capital:Yamagata City
Yamagata Prefecture is the largest producer of cherries and pears in Japan, “Sato nishiki” is especially high quality cherry varieties. Yamagata is known as “the fruit kingdom”

In tourism Yamagata, cherry picking, hot springs and skiing are popular. Zao Onsen and Ginzan Onsen are especially famous hot springs. Ginzan Onsen still retains the old streets of the Taisho and early Showa period. It became nationally famous as the setting for the hit TV drama “Oshin”.

Akita Prefecture


Prefectural capital:Akita City
There are many mountains in Akita Prefecture. In particular, Shirakami-Sanchi of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in northern Akita is famous. The climate is very cold, heavy snow falls in winter. Agricultural production, especially rice cultivation is very developed. The branded rice, “Akita komachi” is very famous.

Namahage that is held in New Year’s Eve night is a well-known traditional Akita’s folklore. The frightfully dressed men, armed with deba knives (albeit wooden fakes) and toting a teoke (“hand pail” made of wood), march in pairs or threes going door-to-door making rounds of peoples’ homes, admonishing children who may be bad behavior, yelling phrases like “Are there any crybabies around?”. By the house master entertain this Namahage, evil spirits in the house will be scare away.

Miyagi Prefecture



Prefectural capital:Sendai City
In Miyagi Prefecture, there are femous fishing ports such as Kesennuma fishing port, Ishinomaki fishing port and Shiogama fishing port. And, Matsushima known as one of the Three Views of Japan is also very famous. In addition, there are many ski resorts and hot springs, are popular from tourists.

Miyagi Prefecture's sights are concentrated in Sendai City. Sendai City is the largest city in the Tōhoku region. Sendai beef tongue grilled is famous, there ara specialty restaurant in place throughout Sendai.

In addition, Aoba Castle is particularly popular. This castle was the home of the Date clan who ruled this whole area in the Edo period. The equestrian statue of Sendai Domain founder lord, Date Masamune is built here. Date Masamune was one of the most famous samurais in Japanese History. Koinobori


Koinobori (carp streamer) are carp-shaped windsocks traditionally flown to celebrate Tango no Sekku (Children’s Day) on May 5 in Japan. Koinobori are decorated from April to early May, in honor of sons for a good future and in the hope that they will grow up healthy and strong.

The Koinobori made in Kazo-city, Saitama Prefecture is very large and very famous.
